Looking for solutions to Iphone 6s charging problems
When connected for charging the phone often does not make a good connection to the charging cable and fails to charge. Why?

There could be debris in the charging port, the cable might be damaged, or the port itself might be damaged.
If you can borrow a different charger that is known to work you can perhaps eliminate some of these.
You probably should make an appointment at the Genius Bar and bring both charger and phone.
