Word keeps displaying a large red X instead of images

Hey Guys,

Please help me with the following

- My physics teacher uploads files for us to download and use as practice before tests. So i downloaded a file today and when I opened it, the images were replaced with a large red cross, and this actually happened in the previous lesson. Please help me on what to do as this is very inconvenient and the whole reason why I switched from hP to Mac was because mac is supposed to be more convenient and reliable...

anyway here is some info

- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

running MacOS high sierra version 10.13.1

2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 processor

MacBook Pro with Retina display

It may be that either the images are corrupted or that Word does not recognize the image format in order to display it properly. Word uses either a red "X" or a generic picture to represent any graphic or picture it cannot display.

I suggest that you ask your Physics teacher what format the images that they provided you. Also, have you tried opening these downloads in any other application to see if they render there?
