Unable to restart properly after latest update??

After trying to install the latest OS (high Sierra I think it was called) onto my MacBook Pro (mid 2012 model) this morning I’m now struggling to get my MacBook Pro to turn fully. It will fire up then show the following message.

“Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up.”

After a few seconds it brings up the apple logo with the loading bar below for a few seconds the load bar fills about a quarter of the way along before a load of black and white texts appears all over the screen.

Has anyone had a similar issue and managed to sort it?
