My iPa air will not update IOS

My iPad air 2 will not update its IOS beyond 9.3.5 even though everything I read says it should update to 11. I've tried everything including via iTunes. Help!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I see that you're having some trouble getting your iPad updated to the latest version of iOS. I know it's important to keep your devices up-to-date, and I'm happy to help.

Are you sure you have an iPad Air 2? While an iPad Air 2 is compatible with iOS 11, an iPad 2 is not. The following document will help you identify which model you have: Identify your iPad model

If your iPad is an iPad 2, then iOS 9.3.5 is the latest version that can be installed. The following resource lists all iOS updates, as well as their device compatibility: Apple security updates

Hi teri@forum. A couple more suggestions.

Be sure you don't have a beta Profile, Settings > General > Profile, near the end of General. Delete it if you do.

Whar happens when you try to update, Settings > General > Software Update?

thanks so much For your reply. Turns out I do have an iPad Mini (I DID have an iPad Air 2) and so I am up to date. I wanted it up to date as I’m selling it. Believe it or not, I’ve spent days trying to fix this; if only I’d known you were out there😄😄

I’m very grateful as it has been a bad 2 weeks - problems with switching to Comcast, etc. I still can’t figure out my email and other things. I LOVE technology but am 75 yo and it’s beyond frustrating when you have no education in tech and have to figure it out yourself. Again, thanks.
