My Friend gave me his iPad and he reset it but it telling me to my a email and password in before I can go on the ipad

Hi. Ask your friend to do all the steps on this link: What to do before you sell or give away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Especially, he needs to remove the iPad from Find my Phone.
