Apple Watch cellular doesn’t work

I have paired my iPhone with my apply watch and set up cellular with my carrier, Sprint (it’s a family plan so I can’t switch), yet when I’m not around my phone I can’t make/receive phone calls and I can’t respond to text messages. I’ve turned cellular on and off multiple times, restarted my phone and watch, turned off WiFi on my phone, and nothing seems to fix this problem. If I had known the cellular doesn’t work I wouldn’t have paid for the service/watch.
