I dont know how can I see the last files create or modificate in my recent folder.

In Recents, it depends on whether the tool you use to transfer the photos sets the correct metadata.

  • In Finder, select your Home folder and type cmd-F.

You should have two search location options, "This Mac" or your home folder. Choose whichever is appropriate. If you store photos in your Home folder (or a subfolder, use that). If they are outside of your home folder, then use "This Mac."

  • Where it says Kind is Any, set Any to Image and leave the type to All.
  • Hold down the Option key and select Date Modified in the Sort by submenu of the View menu.
  • Click the Save button in the window. Give it a name and check the box to Add to Sidebar.

To view all of your image files, just click on the Search Folder in your Sidebar and all your image files that are in you Home folder will be listed, sorted by date modified.

Whatever program you are editing it with is not setting the metadata which Recents uses to populate the contents of the search folder. Even some of Apple's programs will not write the data.

If the metadata is not set for the file, Recents will not pick it up.

The whole search string is this:

(kMDItemLastUsedDate = "*") && ((kMDItemContentTypeTree = public.content) || (kMDItemContentTypeTree = "com.microsoft.*"cdw) || (kMDItemContentTypeTree = public.archive))

The primary thing it needs is the LastUsedDate. The rest are usually set already.

I've found that if you open the file after creating it, the metadata gets set.

Hi Barney

Thank you for your reply!

I prefer the old style but apparently is impossible for me to have the folder showing the last saved/created file. I have to open the file to be visible there or create the search folder as you mentioned above. the problem is that I want to see the last created or modified file. Many times I am creating files and I have to upload them. Some time I am creating more than 100 files in more than 50 folder and I have to upload them after that. Now I have to open 50 folders one by one and select the files I need... 😟

Hi Barney

Sorry I just come back from abroad.

I am a photographer I shoot a lot of flats and houses.

I usually do up to 8 properties a day and more than 25 photos ( jpg ) for every property.

Apparently I am not able to create the search criteria you are saying. I dont know how can I see the last files create or modificate in my recent folder.
