Question: My IPhone7 is not connecting to 5GHz after iOS 11. It detects the 5GHz network but fails to connect saying "Incorrect password"! My password was not changed and I have other devices connecting correctly with the same password.

My IPhone7 is not connecting to 5GHz after iOS 11. It detects the 5GHz network but fails to connect saying "Incorrect password"! My password was not changed and I have other devices connecting correctly with the same password. So it is clearly a problem with my iPhone7 after upgrading to iOS11.

** Some reason I could not post this on the iPhone communities!!! Not sure why. Is iPhone community restricted?

Shame on YOU for not troubleshooting the problem. Usually restarting the router, forgetting the network then reconnecting, or Reset Network Settings will fix this transient condition. I only connect my iPhone 7 to 5 GHz networks, and rarely have this problem. But when I do I just forget the network and reconnect. I've never had to buy a new router to resolve it.

I'm an experienced IT professional and tried every possible and imaginable procedures to put my iPhone connect to 5 Ghz router, from simply changing password to security strength, RTS/CTS, WMM, beacon interval, channel, range, even tried two different models of 5ghz routers from TP-LINK to managed Cisco routers. I also forgot network, reset network settings and restarted on my iPhone. NO SUCCESS AT ALL. Do you have anything to contribute than assume that everyone is as d u m b, s t u p i d and i g n o r a n t as yourself? No? Then just stay away from this discussion, old man.

I have no trouble connecting to any 5 GHz router with my 7 Plus. I never have in the year that I've had it. There are over a dozen that I use in different locations routinely at my IT consulting client's offices. I just got back from Paris, where I connected at 5 GHz in my hotel and in several museums and shops, including the Apple store near the Opera Garnier. My home router is 5 GHz. The extended network at the museum where I volunteer is 5 GHz. My Keezel hardware VPN adapter is 5 GHz. And I see almost no other complaints here in the forum. So if it doesn't work with your phone, it's most likely a problem with your phone.

And as you did not list any of the troubleshooting steps that you took prior to posting, and, while I am an IT professional with 50 years experience, that experience has not included mind reading.

Sorry, I'm not ranting, but 50 years of experience should taught you to understand that there are issues with hardware and software that goes beyond our comprehension UNTIL the maker/developer find out and fix it.

If you just type a few words on Google about iphone and wifi connections you'll find a lot of problems, including the one where SOME iPhones does not connect to open wifi with captive portal or another authentication method past wifi connection or with PEAP, like EDUROAM wifi connection through Cisco APs in the university where I work. While most of them work flawlessly, some of them shows annoying behavior, like the one the OP posted here. And Apple simply DO NOTHING ABOUT because just a few users experience these problems.

Iphones are sold everyday, there are millions or billions devices active right now, certainly some have problems, it's absolutely understandable, and if You're counting only a dozen or few more iphones as your experience with them, sorry, but you have seen nothing.

I have to manage more than 1500 devices including - at least - 400 iphones from 5s to 8, owned by students and teachers, and before posting any questions here I try do figure out what's happening and sometimes I succeed in a solution, almost every time with a work around solution or some technical procedure that is hard for users (like to force invalid dns to allow persistent connections to access a captive portal page). Believe me when I say that iphones doesn't work always as expected.

Anyway, I'm not here to compare myself with you. If your iPhone works as expected, fine. I did everything that you posted in your answer in this thread, and more, like explained in my previous answer. If you're disappointed because your advices doesn't work for everyone, sorry, but it doesn't.
