Search results in iTunes do not jibe with data in iTunes

I find an increasing number of records in my iTunes Library where the search results do not agree with the records in the library. I have albums by various singer/songwriters where a search indicates some songs were written by Ludwig Van Beethoven. I have artists that in the search column have two entries: one set contain legitimate albums by the artist; the other contains compilation albums that bear no relation to the artist. On examination, the actual GET INFO for specific tracks show all of the data reflects reality (the actual contents of the musical track).

I suspect an iTunes database has been corrupted. Is there a way to force iTunes to rebuild or repair the database without having to delete and re-add data for over 1,500 tracks?

I am running iTunes 12.7.1.14

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
