purchased songs matched to apple music songs

I have a nano and subscribe to apple music. As a result, 95% of my purchased songs, i.e., songs uploaded from CDs and purchased from other legal sites have been matched to apple music songs. No one in support has given me an answer that makes sense with respect to why I cannot copy my music to my nano. I have been told that I have to repurchase the songs. That is totally crazy and unacceptable. Why should I have to pay twice?. Has anyone spoken with support for info on how to get purchased music and the like
