how to remove apple.help@gmx.com virus from ipod touch

Please help. I found my ipod touch (older model) recently and charged it. The screen came on as normal, but then it asked for a passcode (never had one) and said: write to email: apple.help@gmx.com discovered this is a virus or ransomware. Does anyone have specific steps I can take to remove it? Thank you.
