Safari will not let me close it out, what do I need to do?

Safari will not let close it, need to run updates and Safari blocks any attempt to do so. Have tried to shut system down but I cannot do so.

Try  menu/Force Quit and select Safari. If that does not work, shut the computer down using the power switch and restart.
