I need help with deleting a guest user account that is greyed out.
When I initially set up my computer, it didn't have the guest account. Since I did the update today to High Sierra, now it's showing up. I just don't have a need for it, and don't understand why it just appeared when I wasn't given the option to add it.
It doesn't just show in the User & Groups section, but shows up as a sign on option when I first turn my computer on. I don't want it to be there for anyone to use. But when I try to delete it from System Preferences, it's greyed out.
That is new to High Sierra and not a bug nor an option. It is a system account that you cannot delete. If you allow someone to log in to your computer they will only be able to gain access to the Guest account, thus, protecting your security. It will not cause you any problems.
When I initially set up my computer, the guest account didn't appear on the sign on screen. After I updated my computer to High Sierra today, now it's showing up. I wasn't given the option - it was just there. I don't want this account to show up on the sign on screen, as anyone can just sign on to my computer with this account. It's not password protected. Do you know how to remove it when it's greyed out?
Can’t delete a guest account?. It’s either disable or enable. Are you having trouble disabling the account? After disabling, does it still show in the login screen when turning on or rebooting the computer? This might be a behavior related to file vault being activated. Under security of system preferences, you might need to turn file vault off before performing the above steps again.
I actually did disable it, but it still shows up on the login screen after rebooting. However, it does require a password after disabling it. I will try turning off the file vault, then reboot to see if it goes away. Thank you! Can you tell me what the file vault is for?
Extra layers of security towards the user account or accounts. It makes the user on the Mac HD appear invisible under a network intrusion plus, it’s almost impossible to decrypt this code if the SSD was ever removed from the MLB.
What about creating another admin account, quickly set it up and try disabling the guest from there. This might be a user account issue instead of the system being at fault in any way. I have upgraded to higher sierra with no similarities.
Is this an account you created or is this the system default Guest account that you see in Users & Groups? Why do you need to delete the account?
Is there anyone to set it as pw protected?
Thank you so much for your help! 🙂
Actually, the file vault is already turned off, so I'm at a loss. Thanks for your efforts though!
Thanks for the info and your help!
