apple watch 3 - setting up cellular

I just purchased a apple watch 3 and trying to set up cellular. However my plan is managed by my work and they are telling me they do not support having a cellular plan on the apple watch. Is it possible to have the cellular plan tied to my son's iphone but still paired with my phone?
