My sms messages are being sent to android users all broken up into several texts instead of one message

How come when I send one text message it is sent to the other party in several texts and not one text like it is sent from my phone?

iPhone 6s, iOS 11.0.3

That would depend on your carrier and the length of your message. SMS messages are restricted to 160 characters. While iPhone users with iMessage can send any length they wish. While some non-iOS based phones and carriers will handle them differently, many will break them up at the 160 character limit. If you are sending a long message, that would explain it. You can contact your carrier and ask them, but SMS is a carrier feature. There is no setting on the iPhone for handling SMS.

This is a disaster. Apple should not send SMS's with "Smart" Punctuation. Way too many phones can't receive them properly. If they want to send iMessages with these "improved" punctuations marks that look exactly like the old punctuations unless you hold the phone up to your nose, that's fine, but breaking everyone's SMS's for a iOS upgrade is bad business.
