Spotlight not showing when external monitor connected

Since today Spotlight does not show up (either using keyboard shortcut or icon in top bar) when I have an external monitor connected.

I'm on High Sierra 10.13.1. The problem occurred this morning when I was on 10.13. I did not have any problems last week on 10.13.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 10.3.1
