Trying to Uggrade to Sierra

I have a Macbook running 10.6 and am trying to upgrade to Sierra. On the Apple support site it says go to the App Store but that is X'd as an option on my computer. How do I upgrade Sierra?

Hi,

Go to the Apple menu in the top menu bar on your Mac. If it says Software Update, then use it to run all updates to get you to 10.6.8, which you need to use the App Store. If it says App Store, click on it and use the search function to get Sierra.

Alternately, Go to the macOS Sierra page > click on Open on the left side of the page (or Install if there’s an Install button) > click on Continue and follow the prompts.
