I can't log in on my iMac

I can't log in on my iMac, when I type a character 2 spaces are filled. There was a box left on the keyboard and track pad. I did a power down and restart but it didn't correct the problem.

Reset the SMC 2-3 times back to back and retest, instructions are in iMac SMC and PRAM reset
