I have received no email for nearly two months. The message I get is to make sure that the server “imap.aol.com” is not responding. Verify that I have entered the correct account info in mail settings. WHAT do I enter and exactly WHERE DO I enter it?

You should still check with AOL. Perhaps not quite in line with the question but here is an Apple guide to setting up mail on your phone.

This is only a best guess but it's possible that there may be a Rogue email address that has captured your mail? I had a similar issue this weekend and found my mail was being compromised by an unknown email address that got into my phone by yet unknown means. In my case the rogue email address was "spikingfakers@my.minibox.email". The solution may seem a bit complex but you might try the following:

Go to Settings/Accounts&Passwords/aol mail/Account/Advanced and see if possibly there is an email address you do not recognize as a secondary account. You may be able to delete portions of the address or a blocked out password or turn off a switch but in my case my attempts to delete it were met with a message that said "server cannot be modified because it is primary outgoing server for account "Weather". On the forums I found others with a similar problem that was linked to a server for the imap function. To get rid of the rogue address and link I had to delete the weather app by going to Settings/General/Profile where I found the link to the weather app server and was able to delete it. Now my email is working but has me wondering what information may have been compromised on my phone. Hope there may be others who know more about this invasive tactic getting into the iphone and what damage it might do.
