iPhone X tap to wake

So basically, "tap to wake" the screen on my iPhone X no longer seems to work.

I've tried the following:

• turning feature off and on in accessibility menu; and
• restoring to factory setting from iTunes and then doing a restore from iCloud backup.

None of the above helped. Any ideas on what is causing this problem?
