Why is Apple Pay sharing my credit card number?

I have noticed at some merchants where I use Apple Pay that the receipt is displaying the last four digits of my actual credit card number. I thought part of the whole purpose of Apple Pay was to keep that information from the merchant. It should be using the Device Account Number that is created and that is what should appear on my receipts correct?

I have verified in my phone that the Device Account Number does have a different last 4 than my actual card. I would think the only way a merchant would be able to print my actual last 4 on the receipt would be if my real credit card number was being shared with them.

At other retailers, I have used Apple Pay and it shows a different last 4 than my actual card.
