How to Update IMessages on Laptop?

Downloaded latest software update for iPhone 7. And completed Sierra update for my laptop (Mac OS 10.13.1). However, on iMessages via laptop the update appears to not be working. When some people send text messages from their iPhone, the word "I" shows up as follows:

Any idea what might be going on and how to fix/solve?
