Time Capsule-OTHER, ERROR 89
It is unlikely that you have a Time Capsule problem, since you are seeing an operating system error on the Mac(s). Can you tell us what operating system is installed on the Macs?
(We've seen a lot of issues with users who have installed High Sierra)
Not sure if you were aware of this or not, but if your Mac(s) have a solid state drive (SSD), Apple (without telling you) has reformatted the drive on the Mac(s), so your Time Capsule is "seeing" different Macs than it saw before.
Do either or both of your Macs have a solid state drive?
We don't know what troubleshooting steps you might have already tried......and we don't want to waste your time by asking you to do things that you have already done........so it is possible that you could briefly list what troubleshooting that you have already done?
I have a 27" iMac late 2013 release with DDR3
and a MacBook Pro late 2013 release with DDR3
I have not tried anything very technical, just the reboot of machines and time capsule and selected the backup disk.
Does that help?
OK, thanks for the information. Unfortunately, since this is a tricky issue with multiple causes, there are no guarantees that we can solve your issue, but the following steps have helped some of the users who have had trouble with this issue when High Sierra is installed on their Macs.
Shut down one of your Macs.
Restart the Mac that you will be working on.
Power off the Time Capsule, wait a few seconds, then power it back up again.
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Time Machine "clock" icon at the top of the Mac's screen.
Click on Verify Backups
The process will take anywhere from 10-60 minutes or more depending on how much data is stored in the backup. Let the process run until it completes, or you receive an error message.
If you do receive an error message, please post the exact message that you see.
Please report on your results. Do not attempt to run another backup yet.
I followed your instructions, I did not get an error message and it actually went into a complete backup of my MacBook Pro. It backed up overnight. This is the Message:
Backup Complete. Time Machine has competed the first backup to Cheryle's Airport Time Capsule
Now that this is done...questions....will it find this location and continue to back up in the future?
My iMac is still turned off. Will I need to do a complete back up to this computer as well.
Sorry I didn't totally follow your instructions, but I didn't know it would go into the compete back up without asking me first.
Thanks for your help.....I will await further feedback
Cheryle
Backup Complete. Time Machine has competed the first backup to Cheryle's Airport Time Capsule
This indicates that your old backups were corrupted, so Time Machine started all over again with a new backup.
will it find this location and continue to back up in the future?
In theory, yes. Keep an eye on things over the next few days to confirm that incremental backups are working.
My iMac is still turned off.
Power up the iMac and run the exact same Verify Backups check that you ran on your other Mac.
