Spots on Macbook Pro screen

I just noticed several (approximately 20) small specks on my Macbook Pro screen that distort the light from the screen. By that I mean, they sort of reflect the light as if they were small drops of water. I cannot clean them off with a lint-free cloth and they appear to actually be raised from the screen.

Does anyone have any idea of what this might be and how to get rid of it?
