Cannot click in Microsoft Office after switching from Chrome

Hi! I'm experiencing an odd issue, which I believe started after upgrading to MacOS High Sierra. When I have a Microsoft Office product open (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Chrome at the same time, I find that the Office product freezes if I click on a Chrome window then return to Office. For instance, I can type something in Word, switch to Chrome, then return to Word -- but once I'm back in Word, I cannot click ANY buttons or type any text. It's as if the entire program froze, but I don't think it technically did. The only solution is to Force Quite the Office product. Here's the exception: when I only switch between Word to Chrome using the Dock icon (rather than using my mouse to click the actual window), the issue doesn't seem to occur.

It's happening quite often, and it's very frustrating! Any advice?
