My Ipod touch won't update

I have a Ipod touch first generation and I am trying to update it but anytime I try it says no further updates are found and I am wondering if that is normal or if my Ipod is messed up and needs to brought to an apple store and fixed.

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.6, no further updates found
