Find item, click on it, finder quits/crashes

I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.6, when I try to find a file (jpg, doc, ttf, etc) as soon as the finder finds the item and I click on it, the finder winder just closes, I am unable to select the item

is this fixable?

Thanks.

Boot into Safe Mode and see if you still have the problem while in Safe Mode.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

If it still has the problem in Safe Mode, try a different user account (Guest will work) and see if the problem still exists.

Depending on the results of those two tests, we may be able to figure out what is causing the problem.

Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
