macOS High Sierra Letter "I" Turns into Letter "A"

Since downloading macOS High Sierra, the letter "I" turns into the letter "A" along with a stack of black bars in the Messages app. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Image of message on my iPhone and what it looks like on macOS High Sierra:
