How do I locate copies of e-mails in the Finder?

I do believe that e-mails that are deleted in the e-mail box may be stored elsewhere in the computer. I wish to delete these files because I believe it is slowing down my computer.....Where and how do I find these files, and how might I delete them from the computer? Thanks!

If you go to the Trash folder in the Mail Sidebar, select the first e-mail, then scroll to the bottom, and select the last e-mail while holding down the shift key, then hit the delete key, doesn't that remove the e-mails?

I do know how to permanently delete messages in the Mail application. What I want to know is whether they remain somewhere in the computer after being permanently deleted. I also have other e-mail accounts where I commonly delete e-mails. Does this usually mean they are permanently removed from the computer? I am concerned about a possible large number of e-mails accumulating somewhere on the hard drive that I don't want to take up hard drive space.......
