I dropped my ipad mini 4 a few months back and I decided to ask around first if anyone had any suggestions as to what might be wrong with it. I had picked it up after the drop and realized the home button didn’t work anymore.

Home button broken, screen won’t light up, still makes sounds. What’s wrong?

I had tried to restart it and well, that was probably the dumbest thing I could do. It turned on as expected but give or take five minutes the whole screen went black. I plug it in to the charger and the computer to try and get it to connect to iTunes but there’s no display whatsoever, yet it still makes my email and messenger notifications. I’m calling an apple rep tomorrow sometime but I’d like to hear what you guys think it might be?

I live no where close to an apple store. And they had asked me to provide the serial number of the iPad before they could help me. My iPad used to be on my devices, apparently it disconnected awhile back. So I can’t access my serial number and now I’m stuck in a rut. I don’t want to spend the money to buy another when I know this one is capable of working fine again.

No one here can really troubleshoot a possible iDevice hardware issue.

Your best bet is to take it in to your “local” Apple Store.

If your iPad Mini 4 no longer has any AppleCare left on it, an out of warranty replacement cost will be 60% of a new iPad Mini 4.

If you purchased 2-year AppleCare+ and have any AppleCare+ warranty left, a replacement iPad will only cost you $50.

Apple doesn’t repair iPads, they replace.

Good Luck to You!

Hello Mariah,

I guess you must have added the last post as I was replying. In this case, trying to restart it was not dumb. However else would you find out if the drop had caused a problem? But after such an event the chances of resolving the problem are virtually nil. The trouble with matters like this is that the full effects tend to manifest themselves in many ways and over an indeterminate length of time. Get it into a store and don't turn it on again.

Like I stated above, Apple does NOT fix/repair iPads.

To expedite quick customer service, they will only offer you a replacement iPad Mini 4 for 60% of new or for $50 depending on whether you have any AppleCare warranties left, or not!

You need to drive to your local Apple Store.

No one can offer you help for broken iPad hardware.

Once again, Good Luck!
