Frustrating Battery Usage

Has anyone else experienced weird battery usage. The battery drains fast but when I plug in the lightening cord the battery will quickly show its 99% full. Last night it was fully charged. It was unplugged and this morning it was down to 49% battery. Plug in and it’s 99% full. 99% seems right. What’s going on? I had hoped an ios 11 update would fix it.
