Question: How to get rid of MacKeeper

Can someone please help me get rid of MacKeeper ? I use a MacBook Air with OS X 10.13.1 - High Sierra. It is functioning as pop-up malware when I try to open a new window in Safari.

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.7), Microsoft Entourage

According to the developer, "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac will detect MacKeeper as PUP.MacKeeper, and will remove the app and all other components."

Otherwise, give the following a try: http://www.macworld.com/article/2861435/software-utilities/how-to-uninstall-mack eeper-from-your-mac.html

Unfortunately, MacKeeper does not appear in the Applications folder, and in the Library folder NONE of the indicated files appear. Do I have to PAY for an application to remove this unwanted application ? There was an article in MacWorld saying that you do NOT need to pay money to remove these malware pop-ups
