OS 10.13.1 - problems with spinning beachballs

Hi,

Ever since I upgraded to this from the previous version I have been plagued by the system becoming unusable with spinning beachballs all the time. It seems to usually stop if I force quit Apple Mail. I have tried looking in Activity Monitor but there is no sign of any excessive memory or cpu usage from Apple Mail there.

I just started Mail again with 8.94 GB of memory from 16 GB used. Within 1 minute the beachball came along and the whole system became so laggy as to be unusable for any practical purpose. Activity showed nothing spiking. As soon as I force quite Apple Mail things reverted to normal.

Has anyone else been experiencing these problems?

Thanks,

Mark
