Postscript error on print jobs to HP printers ( undefinedresult )

HP has released a new HP Easy Start today (2017-11-15) for the M602 device. You might check the other models in your original post, to see if the same is true. I would install and run these to see if they find new driver code for the respective models.

Word .docx documents created on Mac or Windows do not embed fonts, but rather use font references. If a Windows created .docx attempts to make a faux font (italic, bold) from an installed font that does not offer that font face on Windows, then printing that document on a Mac will have an issue because the font won't exist either.

If the .docx was created in Word 2008/2011 for Mac, then the font reference will point to a System font location where that Office package installed the Microsoft fonts. If this document travels to a Mac that does not have the Office 2008/2011 fonts installed, but instead either has no Office installation, or Office 2016 for Mac, then again, the Microsoft fonts won't be found. Office 2016 stores its fonts within each application bundle.

Conversely, if one creates a .docx with Office 2016 for Mac, and that .docx is printed on a Mac that only has Office 2008/2011 installed, then it won't find a font that it thinks is stored internal to an Office 2016 Word application.

Computing used to be easier.

The HP Printer Driver V5.1 package or the S-5-7-5 brings in different drivers release according to each specific printer model. You can see here all of them: https://support.apple.com/it-it/HT201465

I've tried to "force" a different driver picking-up a printer model similar to our M605 but no way to get it printing.

We need an HP Printers driver V5.2 package or a new essential package from HP....

Found this on an HP site, and this worked for us on a M551:

From the Finder, select Go > Go to Folder...

In the dialog box, enter: /etc/cups/ppd

In the folder that opens, you should see a .ppd file with the name of your printer -- open it in TextEdit (just drag the file onto the TextEdit app)

Look for the line *TTRasterizer: Type42

Change "Type42" to "None"

Save (may need to replace and remove the .txt to deal with permissions)

I had same PostScript issue when printing some DOCX/PDF files and today I have resolved it.

Environment:

• Two MFPs: HP LaserJet MFP M527 (FS4 firmware 2405129_000039)
• Printer HP LaserJet P3015dn
• MacOS High Sierra 10.13.2
• Last HP drivers (HP Easy Start with hp-printer-essentials-S-5_7_5.pkg)

For fixing this issue after new driver installation it is necessary to reset printing subsystem and re-create all needed printers. Only after resetting and re-creating printers it's begin to work properly.

We have found the Calibri and HP are not working on High Sierra on our M551. If any character in the file is Calibri we get the error:

ERROR: undefinedresult

OFFENDING COMMAND: xshow

We have reinstalled drivers, updated firmware, everything. No solution but to print to PDF and than print file.

Issue continues when print from OSX 10.13 High Sierra. We have HP LJ M601 and M604 printers. Documents with/without Calibri produce the error message. I downgraded the firmware on the M601 to version 3.5.1 (revision 2305090) and documents printed fine. No luck when using different firmware version on the M604. I hope that an update on this issue is available soon, as running older firmware (on the M601) and not able to print to M604 printers is a problem.

Another workaround is copying/pasting text from an offending document into a new file to Word16.

I fixed the problem by downloading the Apple driver for our HP printer. It turns out Apple has its own drivers for high sierra and if you update from the HP site, you get issues. Working fine now. Hope this helps!

we have a network of Macs together with few HP Laserjets M605 and Multifunction MFP. Everything was working fine printing with HP Easy Start drivers.

Since upgraded to High Sierra we now have this offending command problem on all of the M605 ONLY. The MFP keeps printing with no problems.

The printing error occurs randomly on a variety of different emails. Some does print, some does not, some produce the error.

Tried re-installing the latest HP Easy Start - not solved

Tried upgrading M605s firmware to the latest revision - not solved

As current workaround I setup up know all of the M605 as Generic PCL printers. Printing quality is lower but at least everything is printed.

Looking forward for a resolution from either Apple or HP (this issue is also being discussed over HP support forums).

could you please confirm the below sequence of action it the one you applied:

1) installed HP Easy Start

2) installed HP-Printer-essential-S-575.pkg (I noticed on HP FTP site there are also newers SE575, SE590,??)

3) reset the printing subsystem

4) re-created the printers..

I dont know about compatibility between HP-Printer-essential-S-* and HP-Printer-essential-SE-*. For *-S-* the last version is 5.7.5.

1) Some time ago I've updated from Sierra to H. Sierra with installed printers. I don't remember driver version but precisely the HP printing driver was installed through HP Easy Start.

2) I encountered a printing problem

3) After some time I had installed the new driver version (5.7.5). It didn't help.

4) Today I got angry and contacted HP Inc support. HP support said that they do not develop drivers for OSX (sic!).They redirected me to Apple support.

5) Apple support start with a reset printing subsystem. After resetting, all printers disappear — it is normal.

6) I've added all my printers and it all worked. Yesterday's problem DOCX file has normally printed.

I've tried the whole sequence including resetting the printing subsystem and re-adding the printers. Still not working.

The std email text does print on the HP MFP printer but gives the error on all the HP M605 we have in the network.

On the HP forums there are tons of people having the same issue on different HP printers.....and the HP support does have an open case asserting they know about the issue and working on a resolution.....

This morning in the Apple Store I did found a new update available notice relative to HP printer drivers. Despite the version is still 5.1 which is the one I already downloaded and installed I did tried to install this update. After install I did reset the printing subsystem and re-created all the printers. The driver version being applied to our HP M605 are still the same V19.13 and, as I was worried about, the offending command error is still there. Not solved....
