ALAC Files

I rip my CD's into ALAC format using iTunes. Since the files won't be uploaded as-is (via Match) into the iCloud, but will be transcoded into AAC 256 kbps files, I cannot play ALAC on the Apple iOS app. Anyone know of a music player that will also accept and play ALAC without transcoding? All guidance appreciated.

iPad Air Wi-Fi, iOS 7.1.2

If you turn off iCloud Music Library on the device you can sync selected playlists to it that can contain tracks in ALAC format. Obviously you cannot put the whole library on there at once, but if you're after quality over quantity then that would be one way to go. You would use the Music app on the device to listen. When iCloud Music Library is enabled you get access to the entire iTunes Match or Apple Music library (depending on your subscription) but you need to stream or download those tracks rather than sync from iTunes, and you're limited to 256k AAC.
