slow mail with high sierra release

Ever since I upgraded to High Sierra (10.13.1) all my mail accounts are running like molasses in winter. I tried disabling "load content" but it still runs extremely slow. Does anyone have any suggestions, other than reverting back one version, that corrects this problem?
