Your advice to purchase a wired mouse and keyboard makes a lot of sense.

They are handy to have around when the 21st century fails you. 😉

EtreCheck reads “good” and everything works well even with only 4 megs of ram so it seems there’s nothing to report.

That is good news. 🙂

Might still be worth it to add another 4GB or 8GB of RAM if your seeing the SBBOD or Insufficient RAM in the EtreCheck report. see > Memory & Storage Upgrades for Apple iMac 2009

I got into this situation out of curiosity. Perhaps I should remember that cat and how it ended up.

Curiosity is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it's better to know, than it is to find out the hard way. 😮

Run over to BestBuy, Fry's or Walmart and pickup a MK120 mouse and keyboard combo for $20 or less.

(I know that they work for all key commend inputs because I've been using them for years)

You would need to have Remote Access to use terminal commands. That is explained at the bottom of the "Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac" support article that I posted above.

We might be able to help, if you explain the problem and why you feel the need to startup in safe mode.

If it is currently starting up and working, then another great tool for sotting out problems and adware is EtreCheck, which was designed by a long time communities user to help find system problems and adware.

EtreCheck is quick and easy to use, just follow the instruction at > http://etrecheck.com/
