Icon appearing in iMessage on Macbook

A few days ago my iMessage on my Mac start converting the word "I" to "A (plus a bunch of horizontal lines)". It doesn't seem to happen all the time but it's fairly regular. I have no idea why it's doing it and can't seem to turn it off. My phone is not replicating the problem, it's just on my laptop. Any one know how to fix this?
