Question: OS 11 Cannot send Mail

Updated to OS 11, now iPad Pro using Apple's eMail app will receive eMail Ok, but error message "Cannot Send Mail" appears when replying or trying to send. Says the user name or password for the account is incorrect. Checked and double checked the account settings and all is correct and the same as the other iPad. Shut the unit down and restarting to no avail.


Anyone know what might be going on?

Problem Solved:

An unknown glitch when ios 11.1.1 was installed changed the password for the Outgoing server only. The Incoming server password was not changed leading to receiving eMail but unable to send. Wasn't easy to find because the passwords in that section of settings hide the password with DOTS. I counted the DOTS and saw a discrepency between the Incoming and Outgoing passwords.

Re-entered the correct "outgoing" section password and it worked.

This problem is very frustrating using Apple's eMail app receiving but not being able to send eMail in Verizon's AOL account with it. I wonder if there are any problems with gmail using Apple's mail app. Ready to abandon Verizon/AOL eMail all together and Yahoo, too, since it has been bought up by Verizon.

If Brian’s idea doesn’t work then do some research. Yahoo has been really buggy lately. THey’re upgrading to a still higher level of non-function (I say this as a person with 2 accounts that has had issues sending mail as well)


You may need to look up your mail provider’s SMTP settings and enter the account manually. If mine doesn’t work that is what I will have to do.


You can also reach out to your mail provider’s support page and see what info they offer.
