Trouble answering FaceTime with 2 devices in room

My iPhone 7 and iPad Pro have the same credentials (apple ID, #, etc.). When I get a Facetime call, I can't answer it if they are near to each other - if I answer on the iPhone, it keeps ringing on my iPad, and just shows Connecting and never connects.

How can I stop this?

I really don’t have a solution for you, but I just want to share my own experience which is similar to yours. My wife and I FaceTime with our son every other week at a pre-appointed time so I got into the habit of turning off my iPhone and iPad until I answer the call on my MacBook Pro.

You could try changing the address at which you can be reached on the Phone, but that defeats the purpose of keeping things in sync. My workaround is not ideal, and it doesn’t do any good if an unexpected Facetime call comes in, but that’s how I handle it.
