External DVD drive has swallowed my DVD

I have had an external DVD drive that plugs into my Macbook Air for a few years and have never had problems with it but as off a couple of days ago my Macbook has stopped recognising the disc in it. This is stopping me ejecting the disc. I have performed all the suggested actions on the help pages included resetting my SMC but it is still not recognising that there is a disc inside the machine.

Can some help me in getting this removed?

If you haven't already done so. Shutdown your Mac. The power it on and hold down the mouse button/trackpad. In the case of an Apple drive, this will force the drive to perform an eject.

Check the manual for it. There is sometimes a physical emergency eject button. Sometimes inside the slot along one edge or another, that you can push with a paperclip to forcibly eject whatever might be in the drive.

If you can't find it, contact the manufacturer of the drive.
