Question: AirDrop is not working between my MacBook Pro and my iPad Air

I cannot make AirDrop work on my Mac Book Pro!

I tried someone's earlier suggestion of turning off bluetooth on the MacBook Pro 17" with El Capitan 10.11.6. Then Delete/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and then turning blue tooth back on. However, with my iPad Air nearby, and the AirDrop window open when I hit share, I get a message on my iPAD "share instantly with people nearby. If they turn on Airdrop from Finder on the mac, you will see their names here. Just tap to share". When I try to open AirDrop from Finder on the MAC , I get the same message, but nothing happens. I am getting tired of emailing photos from my iPad and iPhone to myself all the time just so I can file them all with PHOTOS on my MAC. I am not using the iCloud and I do not want to use it. Is there any other way for me to share my images??? PLEASE HELP!!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
