Contacts deleted when upgraded to iOS 11.1

Recently upgraded to iOS 11.1. After the upgrade, all my contacts disappeared. Tried restoring from iCloud, but that didn't work. And, when I try to input a contact that had previously been in my contacts, o can't save it.

No other backups than the one in iCloud, so how can I get my contacts back on my iPhone?
