how do I make my portrait photos fit as a desktop image
my photos are the wrong size when I make them desktop images. They are zoomed in a lot, especially the portrait ones. How do I keep them from being cropped?
iMac, iOS 11.1

Just remember that a photo that, for instance, is 5" tall and 3" wide, cannot be made to fit a screen that is wider than it is tall without some very serious quality problems, pixelation, and loss of resolution. In order to fit better, the photo would need to be in landscape mode, a similar resolution as your screen, and larger than your screen resolution size - shrinking it is easy, enlarging it does not work well.
You have to either choose "Fit to Screen" or "Center" from the drop down menu in System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver or, You would have to edit them to match the ratio of your screen.
