Transfering files

Unfortunately, backups do not include iMessage Data. Future iOS 11 updates may bring the ability to upload your iMessages to iCloud so they will be restored when you switch, but until then there is no way.

Back ups DO include iMessage (and SMS) data.

I have messages on my current phone that I've been transferring from phone to phone probably back to my iPhone 5.

Sorry, but you have no idea what you're talking about. iMessage data is and always has been part of the backup.

hi, you can backup your iphone using iTunes on mac or pc and restore on another phone.

or make icloud backup and login your new phone using your apple id
