iPhone 8 Plus has white band at top of display

I occasionally see a white band appear at the top of my iPhone display, and the wallpaper picture is displaced down. If I move/rotate the phone, the white band disappears and the wallpaper image moves up.

I’ve never seen this before on an iPhone. Do I have a hardware problem? The problem has persisted thru multiple hard reboots.
