Right well zero points for not making a backup before updating/ upgrading.
Did you update from a previous version of Yosemite, or did you upgrade from a previous version of Mac OS X?
If you upgraded from a previous version of Mac OS X did you do an over in place install or a clean install?
Have you set your iCloud preferences to save your Desktop & Documents to iCloud, and your your photos?
System Preferences> iCloud> iCloud Drive
What OS were you running before you upgraded?
How did you do the upgrade?
Did you make a backup before you upgraded?
Made the update thru the app, 10.10.5 version, and no to backup before the
update.
