iPad insists on usink on screen keyboard. Dismiss it with the keyboard icon and the cursor goes away. Tap screen to get cursor back and the on screen keyboard is back. All is up to date. Tried restart, etc. it’s the 12.9. Any ideas?

You may need to return the new keyboard for a replacement. There have been some reports of problems with these keyboards since they first came out, for example this link: iPad Pro Smart Keyboard not working.
Yes to all. This is the newer of two Smart Keyboards. The newer one is 5 weeks old and has this problem on and off while the older one has never had this problem. We have two 12.9 iPads and the newer keyboard does this on both. Haven’t tried this keyboard on either of the two smaller iPad Pros.

Took the keyboard to Apple Danbury and the Genius checked the serial number and replaced it under warranty.
