going from trial to full version final cut X

I had the trial version of final cut pro and just bought the full version through the education store. I’ve gotten the code to unlock the full version, but it keeps asking me to go to the app store and download / buy final cut. I got the education bundle... I don’t want to pay twice, so how can I upgrade my trial version to the full version. Surely there must be a way to just enter the code somewhere, right?
