I have a Mac mini 2012, just purchased an iMac 2017.
Will I need a Thunderbolt or USB adapter to migrate mini to iMac?

I think you can use your Time Machine back up drive or a clone from your Mini to use during Setup Migration on your new iMac.
Like keg55 noted it is easiest to use TM during initial setup to transfer all your apps/files to your new iMac.
